Abstract:
As a relatively new sector in Egypt after being separated from the Transportation sector in 2003/2004, the ICT sector has lacked the presence of indicators reflecting its performance and contribution to the economy, in addition to the inconsistency of some published indicators. In this context, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) has exerted many efforts to make the Egyptian ICT sector indicators available, accurate and reliable through the launch of "Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Indicators Initiative". In addition to the availability of indicators, MCIT has given due care to disseminating such indicators through different channels to the public, academia, media and international organizations. During the past years, Egypt’s ICT sector indicators have become available through periodical reports, bulletins and websites. In addition, MCIT has launched “Egypt’s ICT Indicators Portal” in 2008, which is the first of its kind in the Arab and African region, aiming to provide the necessary, accurate and meaningful data about the ICT sector in Egypt.
