Abstract:

Authors in the contribution focus on the area of emergence and development of legal information systems and legal computer science in the context of knowledge management development. Nowadays, in the information age, knowledge in the field of computer science constitutes the background for success of prospective lawyers. On the other hand, this field of expertise is of minimum attention of legal theoreticians. Due to these reasons, we have decided, using selected methods of scientific research and by scientific and doctrinal interpretation, to analyze available resources concerning the area of historical development of legal computer science. We search for answers to the set goal in academic and scientific literature. In conclusion of this contribution, we summarize the results of the scientific work and confirm or reject the hypothesis on inevitability of teachings of legal computer science at universities in the Slovak Republic. Research of the selected area concerning legal systems and legal computer science in conditions of the Slovak Republic represents the main objective of this contribution, which in its substance intervenes with other areas of research. Primarily, it is directed at the area of legal computer science with substantial overlaps in knowledge management and in theory of law.
