Abstract:
Business informatics relies on data to improve decision making and solve problems. Most often the data used are numeric and clearly structured. Yet, over 80% of business data are unstructured. The large disparity between available business data and the data actually analyzed points to an opportunity for significant improvements in business informatics. This paper explores the emerging technologies of text analytics and text mining as well as their potential contribution to business informatics. Opportunities for future research related to text analytics are also discussed.
