Empirical Analysis of Technological Learning Capability on the Profitability of Selected Manufacturing SMEs in Lagos State

Abstract:

The problem of technological learning capability and profitability in enterprises has long been a source of contention for organizations, particularly manufacturing SMEs in Lagos.  Thus, the focus has always been on how to use new technology and innovations to increase and scale profit or profit margins in firms or Businesses. As a result, organizations are constantly attempting to achieve success by retaining a competitive advantage or edge over their competitors and avoiding a fall in their production level. in other words, manufacturing SMEs and organizations must incorporate new technology and innovations into their organizational structures and commercial operations. The primary objective of this study is to gain a comprehensive understanding of the impact of learning technological capabilities on the profitability of chosen manufacturing SMEs in Lagos. This research examined whether technological learning capability has an effect on the profitability of chosen manufacturing SMEs in Lagos State by utilizing descriptive and causal research design, as well as survey methods. The study's total population size was 562, and as a result, the sample size was determined to be 234. An organized, well-administered questionnaire was used to collect data. It was delivered to 234 research participants, of whom 200 were retrieved and properly filled out. The data were analyzed using multiple regression analysis. The results indicated that there is a significant relationship between technological learning capability and profitability based on tested theories. The study concluded that technological learning capabilities positively affect the profitability of selected manufacturing SMEs in Lagos. Additionally, the research work recommended that manufacturing small and medium enterprises in Africa, and the rest of the world adopt technological learning and integration into their manufacturing processes. Finally, this study indicated that future research should concentrate on small and medium enterprises located in different geopolitical zones or states.
