Abstract:
Energy resources and innovation are currently the subjects of many researches. This study proposes an insight into regional specialisation issues induced by the spatial distribution of energy resources, focusing on Romania’s regional economies as a case study. Energy is the engine of the growth, and the models of development during the history followed a specific natural energy resource. The quantitative analysis of specialisation and concentration employs different data sets and various statistical indicators in order to examine the territorial distribution of electric and thermal energy, gas and water industry and of the mining and quarrying industry in relation with metallurgic industry location. The policy implications of this study provide an important rationale for the ongoing centralized merger campaign of the metallurgic industry in Romania. To accelerate the diffusion of advanced energy efficient technologies and encourage innovation will promote the productive efficiency.
