Enhancements to Mobile Messaging: Abbreviator and Auto-Learner

Abstract:

This paper proposes to enhance the current mobile phone messaging software, namely, the predictive text entry software so that new words are stored automatically for future use. In other words, the software will automatically learn any words that do not exist in the word list or dictionary and use them for future predictions. Another enhancement includes a feature that will abbreviate any unabbreviated words in a message so that message length can be reduced. We presented our ideas and also the basic algorithm that will be used in order to design this software. It is strongly believed that with these additional features, users will be able to send messages at a reduced length, and thus would be able to send a lengthy message at the cost of a single message instead of two or more. Moreover, users who are not adept in using the abbreviations and emoticons can now do so with the features made available on their mobile phones. It is believed these additional features would further enhance mobile phone users’ messaging satisfaction.
