Entrepreneurship and Entrepreneurs in Small Innovative Australian Firms

Abstract:

The research presented in this paper explores entrepreneurial practices within small technology organisations. The research used an interpretive and qualitative approach in which 21 interviews were conducted drawing on 23 individuals from 19 small Australian organisations. From the interview data entrepreneurial practices were grouped into main areas, namely: 1) Entrepreneurship and Entrepreneurs and 2) Entrepreneurial Leadership Practices. As a subset of Entrepreneurship and Entrepreneurs this paper also presents the thoughts on creativity and innovation derived from the interviews as these form the platform for an entrepreneur to thrive. From the findings and discussion, entrepreneurial practices are shown to improve organisational creativity and innovation capability and therefore have a high probability of producing transformational outcomes.
