Entrepreneurship During the Era of Covid-19 (Evidence from Poland)

Abstract:

In the face of the global Covid-19 pandemic, entrepreneurs have to face a new reality: that it is not only a huge sanitary and health crisis affecting billions of people across the world. This is also provoking an unprecedented downturn in the global economy. In Poland, along with the growing number of people diagnosed with coronavirus, the authorities introduced further restrictions. In many sectors sales slowed down and there were noticeable lack of employees caused by health problems or the necessity of taking care of children because of the closure of schools, kindergartens and nurseries. This has had an impact on the situation of entrepreneurs from many industries, who were deprived of revenues almost overnight. Despite the support provided by the Polish government (in so called Anti-Crisis Shield) today many of them face a huge challenge, which is surviving their business, maintaining financial liquidity and protection of jobs.

The purpose of this paper is to determine whether all enterprises in the 11-month period covered by the analysis were equally negatively affected by the pandemic.
