Abstract:

At present the process of the society ageing proceeds systematically being a thus far unprecedented global phenomenon of a demographic nature. According to forecasts in 2025 the number of people over 60 will increase to 1,200,000,000 while in 2050 to over 2 billion, equating with the number of children. In Poland it is predicted that this age group in 2024 will be over 8 million people, while by 2050 it will have reached over 13,5 million, which will account for 40% of the society. Therefore, it is necessary for states to conduct a senior-oriented policy which will ensure that seniors have the opportunity of active ageing in good health and of living an independent and satisfying life.
