Estimation of the Ultimate Load Capacity of Short Thin-walled C-Profiles by Using Advanced Computer Software

Abstract:

Cold-formed, thin-walled steel profile were presented and characterized in the paper. An increase in the use of these elements in building industry is directly related to the development of advanced computer techniques, which gave us tools to study and analyze the behavior of steel thin-walled profiles under various load impact. In the paper, using a testing machine and a computer software dedicated to cooperation with this machine (Blue Hill), axial compression tests were carried out.  Five groups of C-sections differing in length were investigated: 40 cm, 60 cm, 80 cm, 100 cm and 120 cm. Then, using statistical programs, the obtained results were compared and analyzed. The behavior of the samples during the tests and the obtained forms of destruction confirmed the theoretical predictions established at the beginning of the study.
