European Women in Science (the Great Absentees?) – The Assessment of Changes using Spatio-Temporal Cluster Analysis

Abstract:

The purpose of the study is to identify the groups of similar countries in terms of trajectories of changes related to the situation of women in the economy, public life and mainly in science. The study provides the assessment of changes in the situation of women in science, e.g. using basic statistics and also spatio-temporal cluster analysis. European Union countries and other selected countries over the period 2000-2015 are the focus of the study. The analyses use such variables as, for example: the share of women scientists in particular sectors (higher education and business), the share of women with tertiary education graduates in the total number of women aged 30-34, the employment/unemployment rate of women (age group 20-64), the percentage of seats taken by women in national parliaments. Eurostat, World Bank and the IndexMundi database are the sources of the statistical data.
