Evaluation of Home Appliance Energy Usage in Low Energy Houses

Abstract:

The aim of this study is to investigate energy usage pattern and peak demand of home appliances and to find their individual impact on the total energy demand of residential houses by providing new measured data at high time-based minute resolution. This research uses and builds upon the existing data and monitoring system from low energy by adding individual monitoring equipment. The data from this study is to be compared with previous study result in different climate areas and house types. It allows a sample of Australian houses to capture a technical approach for viable energy reduction with zero energy house concepts and empirical evidence to the previous knowledge-based studies on electrical consumption patterns in residential buildings. Finally, this research addresses the factors that influence energy consumption in low energy residential area and the methodology used by Australian (and other) standards to predict appliance end use energy usage, and compare this to actual monitored data.
