Abstract:

The paper objective is to analyze the package wastes recovery and recycling, as an important component of the general issue of waste reduction. The work is mainly focused on the reuse of customers’ product packaging. There are given information and data at the level of European Union and, by comparison, data regarding the situation in Romania. It is presented the evolution of packaging waste, the main elements of the European legislation in this domain and the level of its accomplishment. A special attention is given to plastics packaging and the factors affecting the level of waste recycling. There are analyzed also the reasons explaining the relatively modest performances of Romania in the package waste recycling, trying to propose solutions for the improvement of this situation.
