Abstract:
Sugar beet is being cultivated on about 55 million ha all around the world, in Romania on about 20 thousand ha, having an average production about 55t/ha[2,3]. Sugar beet as a unique plant providing suitable sucrose is being cultivated in a continental temperate climate, occupies 0,39% from the arable surface cultivated in (about 37,1 thousand ha vs.9.3 million ha arable). In 2009 there had been cultivated 21.2 thousand ha with sugar beet and they had obtained a production of 690.1 thousand tons. The average production was 32.5tons/ha [12] and in 2016, the production was of 1012.19 thousand tons[4] on a surface of 24.61 thousand ha, the average production had been of 41.12 tons /ha.[7] The consumption of sugar beet in Romania is of an average of 320.000 tons per year,[7] adding to this the consumption of about 500.000 tons of the industry[7].In comparison Poland consumes 1.400.000 tons, Hungary and Czech Republic consume 350.000 tons, Slovakia 150.000 tons.[8]
