Abstract:
The phenomenon of terrorism based on Islamic fundamentalism is one of the biggest problems threatening the modern world. The main research problem of the article is the analysis of terrorist strategies and the assessment of their threats to European security. The number of terrorist attacks has decreased, but their effectiveness in terms of fatalities has increased. Most of the attacks in the examined period were separatist. The total global cost of economic losses due to terrorism was estimated at $14.1 trillion for 2018 or 11.2% of global GDP. Europe is the second-best performing region after Central America and the Caribbean, according to GTI. Only eight European countries have worsened this indicator. In the article, the authors point out the real threats of terrorism to European countries and methods of fighting it. In their opinion, the measures undertaken should be transnational.
