Abstract:

Partnering is perhaps one of the most innovative developments in delivering a project efficiently and reducing construction disputes. This paper attempts to examine the management and practices of the partnership in Malaysia. It is basically, focused on (i) to identify one suitable definition of partnering for the Malaysian construction industry, (ii) the critical success factors, one suitable operational stage and potential obstacles that might be encountered. A questionnaire was sent to 40 contractors, developers and suppliers chosen randomly within Penang State. As results, this paper has provided valuable insights into the successful implementation of partnering for enhancing overall project performance. It has also found that the widely used concepts and techniques available can be directly applicable to this industry but need some adjustments especially to the operational issues.
