Abstract:
Robots and Artificial Intelligence (AI) have been dramatized in many Hollywood movies, and people’s perceptions of them have become stigmatized. Four categorizations of stigma have been suggested: robots and AI act by themselves against human interest, humans project ‘evil’ onto robots and AI, cultural identity is lost and robots and AI cause a loss of control for humans to shape their own future. With the Japanese government continuing to promote Society 5.0, this research examines whether Japan and Western countries are socially accepting of this concept, which seeks to integrate robot and AI technologies into everyday human life.
