Exploring Key Drivers of Work-Life Balance Initiatives within the UAE

Abstract:

Purpose: This study aims to explore the status of work-life balance (WLB) initiatives within HR departments and their impact on organizational sustainability and workforce development across various business organizations in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Methodology: The study adopts a qualitative approach. Data was collected through six semi-structured interviews with Human Resource directors, managers and assistants.

Findings: The analysis reveals four main themes that highlight the importance of leadership and a learning organizational culture in advancing work-life balance initiatives.

Practical Recommendations: Several recommendations are presented to HR personnel and senior decision makers regarding policies that facilitate job flexibility for employees as well as trainings that equip line managers with the necessary skills to effectively implement and manage WLB initiatives within their teams.

Originality: This study contributes to existing literature by highlighting major drivers of WLB initiations, providing insights into the status of these initiatives in the UAE. It also offers practical recommendations for management.
