Abstract:
Conclusions from research run in the field of security allow to distinguish many of its determinants. Among them are primarily: threat, uncertainty, risk, opportunity, challenge. Researchers are constantly trying to find cause and effect correlation between later. It seems indisputable that among the elements of safety exists a phenomenon known as an "extraordinary event", which is not granted its rightful place in the research fields of security specialists. No doubt it is, after all, a consequence of a peril, which results from a logical sequence of phenomena that may favor or compromise security. The problem situation outlined in this light was used to present considerations on the affinity between "threats" and "extraordinary events". The article is preceded by a synthetic introduction. In the view of assumptions made, the first part of the article focuses on presenting the criteria for threat identification, that was utilized in the further part of the paper to present issues related to extraordinary events. This presentation was based on a review of selected and adopted positions of recognized experts in security research field. The article concludes with a summary that addresses the main issues raised in this study.
