Factors Influencing Young Customer’s Interest in Bike-sharing Services: Evidence from the Slovak Experience

Abstract:

The paper aims to contribute to the current empirical knowledge regarding the contributing factors to young people's willingness to use bike-sharing services. The research focuses on young customers because it is their travel behaviour and their use of sustainable services that can significantly contribute to the protection of the environment. The results indicate that 24 % of respondents do not want to use bike-sharing services, 14 % are undecided, and 39 % would probably use these services. It provides space for addressing these people and change their opinions. The research also found that preferred transport mode, openness to new experiences, access to own bicycle and experience with bike-sharing are significant factors that influence people's interest in using these services. It is these factors that should play an essential role in reaching potential bike-sharing customers in the future.
