Abstract:

The study examined the family-related challenges of working-class married women in Kwara State, Nigeria. Over the years, working class women find it difficult to balance the family responsibilities with the work / office demands which in turn affect productivity and efficiency. Challenges of working category married women is examined in line with length of marriage and career status.  Descriptive survey design was used to execute the study. Population of the study comprises all working-class married women in Kwara State Civil Service. Stratified and purposive sampling methods were used to select 700 respondents from local government secretariats and schools from the three senatorial districts of the State. Researchers designed questionnaire which was used as data collection instrument on the variables under study. Descriptive statistics of mean, and inferential statistics of t-test were employed as methods of data analysis. The study found worrying often about my family”, “lack of quality time with my husband”, and “arriving home late always as parts of the challenges encountered by working class married women. Also, the study showed a substantial variance in the family-related challenges of working-class married women in Kwara State based on length of marriage and career status. It is therefore recommended that counsellors should organize regular lectures, seminars, workshop and other participatory programme for working-class married women which would enlighten them on the concept of family related challenges for married adults and how such challenges can be addressed.
