Abstract:
Agriculture plays an important role in Pakistan’s economy contributing 25% to GDP as of the fiscal year 2015; employing 44% of the workforce of Pakistan and substantially contributing to export earnings of the country. This is mainly because of the vast agricultural resources present within the country. The presence of such useful resources is due to the geographical location and landscape of Pakistan which is blessed with fertile land and varied climate. Apart from this the country has a well-established irrigation system making water availability a continuous process. This results in producing a wide variety of agriculture produce depending on the climate and soil quality conditions. The objective of this research is to analyze horticultural market of Pakistan. The major emphasis will be on production, processing, storage, financial aspects together with project economics and export potential of the fruits and vegetable industry of Pakistan. Therefore the aim is to prepare a feasibility report of setting up a horticulture processing plant in the city of Gwadar to increase the export base of horticulture products.
