Female Entrepreneurship in Romania, A Higher Education Perspective

Abstract:

Entrepreneurship activities are most commonly accepted activities driven by innovation. Becoming an entrepreneur needs more than graduating a course or preparing a portfolio or presenting a business plan. Entrepreneurs need ideas, experience, tact, abilities, nerve, besides information and knowledge. According to Global Entrepreneurship Monitor, the total entrepreneurship activity index for Romania has a modest value 44.6%-a middle position - our country being categorized as an efficiency driven economy.  Such economies benefit of a robust infrastructure that supports a high level of economic productivity, but efficiency margins are still variable.  Along with our analysis on rankings and indexes in the area of entrepreneurship, we will discuss the gender component and the contribution that this factor brings to economic evolution. For a much accurate analysis we will correlate our analysis with tertiary education figures by gender. We should take into consideration that most universities in Romania offer economic classes and most economic universities have female student’s preponderance. We should expect to find some significance on gender entrepreneurship activity within our country.
