Abstract:
This paper aims to investigate the significant factors in influencing firms’ towards electronic payment systems (EPS) in Malaysia and to examine if there is a difference in the firms’ perception between the EPS users and non-users and in terms of the MSC status of the firms. Based on the 122 data collected from firms in Malaysia, the findings revealed that firm’s perception is dependent of their EPS adoption status. Adopters and non-adopters did not share the same concern with regards to the attributes of EPS. Users of EPS, unlike the non-users were less concern of the trust and security aspects of the EPS. For users, the functionality and database management of the payment system are far more important. The findings also shed some light with regards to the firms’ perception given their MSC status. Firms which used EPS emphasized a higher importance of how secured are the EPS, whether EPS are compatible with their existing payment system and whether EPS are accepted form of payment regardless of geographical location.
