Fisheries Sector in the Republic of Moldova. History and Development Potential

Abstract:

The paper presents and analyzes the natural water resources in the territory of the Republic of Moldova intended for fisheries, in order to elaborate plans for the management of the river basins which will support and develop this sector. Sustainable development of aquaculture and fishing represents a long-term economic and social necessity, involving the promotion of fisheries, reducing the negative action of anthropogenic factors and sources of pollution, measures to support fish farms, with lasting effects on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, improvement and maintaining wetlands as well as preserving aquatic biodiversity. Following the research, it was highlighted that the first legislative regulations of the fisheries sector in the Republic of Moldova appeared on April 27, 1995, a law establishing the dimensions of river areas and strips for the protection of rivers and water basins in the Republic of Moldova. In order to protect the biodiversity, in order to ensure a sustainable exploitation of the living aquatic resources, based on scientific research studies done in collaboration with the neighboring countries, additions and modifications can be made of the legal provisions in force regarding the technical characteristics and the conditions of use of fishing for not to cause damage to aquatic ecosystems.
