Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of the paper is to identify the issues, trends, challenges of smartphone adoption and exploring the key drivers of smartphone adoption among people in Malaysia. Design/methodology/approach– This research used qualitative methodology of content analysis to identify smartphone adoption drivers using STEEPV as one of the foresight tools. The determination of key drivers was based on the frequencies of themes with regards to smartphone adoption. Findings–It was found out that the highest frequencies of articles tabulation were social and technology drivers. The top five themes were smartphone competencies (KSAs), technology self-efficacy, technology advancement, digital divide and social norm fit. Research limitations/implications – The amount of sources of articles related to future smartphone adoption in Malaysia are limited thus literatures were based on available sources. Implications – The result from this study helps to provide insights on smartphone adoption which help identify drivers which may create huge impact on future smartphone adoption in Malaysia. Originality/value– This study would provide insight on how to increase penetration of smartphone in Malaysia to realize the Digital Malaysia.
