Abstract:
State intervention in sports has been proven in many countries throughout history. Today awareness of the value of high-performance sports has increased among a growing number of governments investing more money in developing sports systems to achieve success. The government plays an important role in promoting, financing and developing sports in a country. It is important for the government to be involved and support in improving the performance of athletes. This paper aims to analyze in more detail the role of government in efforts to improve the performance of athletes in Indonesia. Qualitative approaches are used to frame, analyze and solution in the form of strategic models for the government in improving athletes' performance based on reviews of various scientific articles taken from special journals that have helped build characterization of the most prominent elements that illustrate the form of government involvement and support that affects athlete performance. The findings show that there is a relationship between government involvement in improving athletes' performance. The results contribute to the literature by providing eight forms of government support and involvement in improving athletes' performance.
