Abstract:
Considerable efforts are currently being made by researchers to bridge the technological gape between developed and under-developed countries. The focus of this paper is on the efforts that enable developing economies to take full advantage of the information and communication technology (ICT). In particular, the need for an Internationalized Domain Name System (IDNS) is discussed. The IDNS allows people from under-developed countries to participate on the Internet in their own local languages. This platform is the main standard technology, which helps the under-developed economies to overcome the technological barriers, and to take part into main stream. The paper first discusses the need for a common IDNS platform, followed by issues related to developing countries and the accessibility of the Internet to their populations, and the need for a common IDNS infrastructure.
