Gamification as a New Alternative Employee Engagement Tool

Abstract:

This study aims to identify the relationship between self-determination and employee engagement moderated by Gamification in N Group Companies, Malaysia. This is due to the lowest engagement levels among Asian countries, including Malaysia, reported by Aon – Hewitt 2017. A quantitative approach was undertaken by conducting factor analysis where; three new factors emerged as independent variables (competence/relatedness, autonomy, and teamwork). The multiple regression analysis showed that the three elements of self-determination have positive relationship with employee engagement. Furthermore, it was found that Gamification moderated the relationship between self-determination and employee engagement. Hence, it is recommended for the organization to implement Gamification exponentially with reference to employee’s self-determination throughout the branches in the country, not subject to human resource (HR) activities but also sales and employee engagement programs.
