Green and Sustainable Development a Necessity for the Future: The Case of Romania

Abstract:

“It’s not late to turn the current unsustainable development into a sustainable direction. This requires not only research, but also education, involvement, growing concerns for alternative civic responsibility and political courage” (Pronk,J. 2012).
In the context of globalization the sustainable development becomes a necessity. A sustainable society is characterized by green investments, investments in research, development and innovation, industrial upgrading, upskilling to new occupations, green and competitive economy. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the state of sustainable development in Romania through the analysis of statistical data related to indicators for determining the sustainability of Romania ( green investments, employment rate, gross domestic expenditure on research, development and innovation, greenhouse gas emissions, share of renewable energy in gross final energy consumption, share of early leavers from education and training, tertiary educational attainment and people at risk of poverty or social exclusion). This paper is part of an extensive green investment research and their role in the sustainable development of society, aiming to achieve a model underlying the investment decision in a country, into an organization in order to increase their sustainability.
