Abstract:

The main purpose of the study is to identify the European Union countries similar in terms of one of the most important development directions of the world: innovation and the green economy. In the paper for this purpose PROMETHEE method was applied. The results of the analyses allowed to separate groups of EU countries characterized by similar level of development in the green economy and innovations. The results of the study confirmed the previous research of Authors, according to which the EU countries should be still divided in the better developed objects located in Northern and Western Europe and others – located in Southern in Western Europe. Despite the support that the European Union countries receive from the Structural Funds, differences between countries located in these parts of Europe are still significant. The research results presented in the paper can be mentioned as one of the first studies analysed at the same time the level of development in the field of: green economy and innovation in EU countries.
