Have We Not Learned IT Politics? The Experiences of Top-Down Implementation Approach of Learning Management Systems

Abstract:

Drawing from Markus’s notion of IT politics, most notably interaction theory, and Drucker’s work on knowledge workers, this paper illustrated a campus LMS (learning management systems) implementation case that evolved around the traditional top-down approach. Narrated in a chronological order, the case analysis revealed how IT politics was shaped in the context where most stakeholders were highly skillful knowledge workers that naturally demanded job respect and autonomy and implied how the implementation process might be better managed. Future management strategy and implementation approach for campus IT projects in general and LMS projects in particular were recommended.
