Abstract:
Job placements among graduates in India is an area of attention for both higher educational institutions as well as companies because they determine the supply and demand of human capital in job market. Higher education institutions strive to provide employability training programmes in such a manner that they closely align with ‘job-market’ skill requirement. But still the gap has been considerable. The focus of current study is to assess the gap between employability skill developed in graduates and the job-market skill set requirements at the time when students have graduated and work ready. This study intends to develop an ‘Employability Skills –Training’ model that would facilitate the intervention of HEI’s in building skills among graduates better during their study period. The study has collected primary data from several important stakeholders of education that has brought increased validity and robustness in the estimate. The outcome of this study would enable the higher education providers to relook at the skill development programmes in their institutions with a focus on achieving balance between academic skill, technical skill and employability skill so that the gap between demand and supply skill set requirements can be reduced.
