Abstract:
Purpose: This article focuses to analyse the way as global companies select a managing director for a subsidiary (international assignment). The study aims to find out what currently companies consider when a post must be fulfilled and the related implications.
Design / Methodology / Approach: In this research the existed bibliography was used as well as a survey with over 100 participants. The survey was done with managing directors, direct superiors & heads of global human resources, direct subordinates and with external consultants dealing with managing directors. On this way a 360-degree approach was granted.
Findings: The outcome of the survey clearly indicated the weak points of the organizations in the selection process when looking for a managing director for a subsidiary company.
Practical Implications: As a result, improvement points were detected to assure that the selection of a managing director will be linked with a successful selection.
