How Semantic Web Can be Used in Better Machine Decision Making

Abstract:

Cyberspace was first created to ease the access of the computer to data. This in turn, would have enabled the machine to give the wanted result in just a few seconds. The issue of a computer understanding the meaning of the data it searched for was never put into question. However, due to the large amount of data that is permanently being created, such an issue needs to be taken more and more into consideration. Semantic web can be perceived as a system that allows computers to "understand" and respond to complex user requests, based on meaning. At the same time, it is considered a content integrator from information contexts, systems and applications. Due to intense online collaborations, a number of applications have access to important metadata about users or websites in the virtual environment. Semantic technology facilitates the identification and aggregation of information regarding the choices, preferences, hobbies mentioned on social networks, leading to the construction of much broader user profiles. The aim of this article is to observe the extent to which Semantic Web is currently being used and how it can impact in the future the decision-making process in the relationship between human and computer.
