How to Study Complex Social Phenomena in the Organization?

Abstract:

In this article, the way of conducting research on complex social phenomena in an organization is shown. The basic assumption in the proposed concept is that the organization is a social system, and consequently a complex adaptive system (CAS). In such systems, understanding the local dynamics of the system is important because it allows insight into the behavior of the entire system and identifies key reasons for changes. The whole concept is based on inductive reasoning ("bottom up" approach). As a research method, simulations using agent-based model (ABM), were proposed, because firstly ABMs show a lot of similarities to the social systems, secondly they allow to study systems dynamics based on local interactions of their elementary units (individual agents or networks of agents)
