Abstract:

Since the emergence of technologies in everyday lives and the development of generalpurpose artificial intelligence (AI), people have enriched their interpersonal collaboration with other human beings while incorporating their artificial co-workers to achieve more. Therefore, human perception and their fundamental experience with AI are critical factors in successfully adopting those transformational technologies. This research study argues that communication plays a vital role in the human-AI relationship. Therefore, it is essential to understand what aspects of communication make thinking computer systems interaction human-like enough that end-users feel empowered and motivated to see AI as a partner rather than a machine. For that purpose, this paper summarizes recent studies of human-robotics interactions and certain human-like behaviors, which create a sense of trust, empathy, and shared understanding leading people to respond as they do to another human being.
