Human Resources Management in the Light of the Changes in the External Environment Based on the Example of Chosen EU Countries

Abstract:

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a great number of enterprises worldwide were forced to limit its activity. In the lifecycle of every organization, a crisis is an exceptional situation. On the one hand, the risk of a crisis may cause damaging threats and, as consequence, the fall of the organization; on the other hand, however, a crisis may boost a positive renewal and bring further growth opportunities. Undoubtedly, the volatility of the environment and crisis situations such as ageing and shrinking of potential labour resources, a global financial crisis, or epidemiological threats are determinant in terms of a change of approach in modern organizations, in particular with regard to human resources management. Therefore, the principal goal of this publication is to present selected risk factors in the external environment and their influence on today’s organizations in terms of HR, based on the example of countries in the Visegrad Group. Quantitative and qualitative analyses presented herein were conducted based on Eurostat’s existing data. Dynamic row change methods were applied, for example a dynamics index. In turn, the pace of ageing of the population was defined based on the demographic ageing index (DAI) based on scoring differences between younger and older population shares.
