ICT IoT Military Nodes – Experiences from Real-world Deployment

Abstract:

Internet of Things systems are currently widely implemented in practical solutions. The solutions are used for the efficient collection and processing of in-formation, and then enable optimal decisions to be made. In order to ensure the appropriate quality of solutions in terms of the security of the processed information NATO decided to develop Federated Mission Networking (FMN) concept in order to be constantly ready to quickly and effectively provide a federated mission environment for coalition forces operations in the future by building solutions using IoT technology. FMN provides: ex-change information in a coalition environment, effectively gather information, assess the situation, make decisions, cooperate, implement and control the conducted mission. It facilitates the receipt, correlation, combination and sharing of relevant information from many independent sources with authorised recipients, regardless of the level of command. As defined in the above-mentioned concept, the approach of incremental definition and implementation of subsequent stages should be used to constantly increase the maturity of solutions. The article presents information on the concept of FMN and ICT Nodes that the Polish Armed Forces acquire, in order to meet the need to have the necessary modern ICT equipment that enables the implementation of the Polish PMN solution.
