Abstract:

The use of IT systems - e.g. for monitoring intersections, setting up systems for informing drivers about hazards, weather conditions, or possible detours - allows for more effective management of urban transport. It additionally minimizes costs and ensures a better flow of information, which leads to an improvement in road safety, and thus to improving driver comfort and significantly reducing driving time. The aim of the article is to discuss the meaning and essence of transport telematics, a description of available telematics services and their areas of application, and to also present telematics as an element of road transport safety.
