Abstract:
Large and complex projects such as hydroelectric plants, nuclear power plants, bridges and highways are unique in that their construction ventures, jurisdictions of utilities and many other disciplines tend to affect other big industrial areas. Those include mega projects which construction costs over $1 billion. For a unique mega-projects, in terms of significance, are considered nuclear power plants, which operation is estimated for 30 years, but it appears that it may be up to 60 years. It is necessary to take into account several risk factors that may affect the safety of the nuclear power plant in the future. The aim of this paper is to present selected risk factors which have to be considered when choosing appropriate location in order to meet specific properties of the nuclear power plant construction project. As an example of this megaproject in Slovakia is the nuclear power plant in Mochovce.
