Implementation of EU Youth Guarantee Programmes in Latvia as Important Determinants of Youth Employability

Abstract:

Many young individuals join the labour market without any further education or training and lacking the foundational skills needed to succeed on the job. As a result, many become unemployed. Currently, less than 40% of young people not in employment, education or training (NEETs) in the EU are registered with their national Youth Guarantee providers (Youth Guarantee…, 2018). Therefore, the promotion of youth employability through offering the youth a number of support programmes is one of the most important priorities in economic policies in the EU and Latvia. The research aim is to aggregate data and analyse how EU-implemented support measures have promoted youth employability in Latvia. The research methodology implemented for the present research study is based on the theoretical concepts and EU documents regarding employability and any factors affecting their development. To find out how the implemented support measures have affected the development of youth employability, the main support programmes for youth employability were analysed and the data were processed by the authors of the paper within the present research. The main findings on youth employability revealed the percentage of young people who found a job after participating in Youth Guarantee measures.
