Abstract:

The objective of this pilot study is to improve the process of incident reporting by implementing the new electronic incident reporting system (EIRS) at Memon Medical Institute Hospital Karachi. First, we investigated the problems of using the manual incident reporting system (MIRS), second, devised the workflow process to implement the new EIRS, third, gave trainings to users encouraging them to adopt the EIRS, and finally, analyzed users’ feedback on the usage of the EIRS. This pilot study was conducted from 22nd May 2018 to  7th August 2017. Results showed that the MIRS was successfully transformed into the EIRS.  Analysis of the users’ feedback concluded that majority of the users were satisfied with the EIRS and found it effective and friendly. This pilot study supported full implementation of the EIRS in the Memon Medical Institute hospital and suggested that it should be adopted by other medical facilities in Pakistan for effective incident reporting
