Implementing the 2030 Sustainability Agenda: Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8) in Romania from 2008 to the Present

Abstract:

Sustainable development aims for a better future for us and future generations. To follow it, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development was elaborated, which proposes, through the 17 objectives, the intervention directions. The 2030 Agenda was adopted by both Romania and the EU, each objective being consenting of a set of indicators. The objective of this paper is the comparative analysis of the most important indicators of SDG 8 Objective Decent work and economic growth in the EU and Romania. They were analyzed in three essential moments of the development of Romania: 2008, the year of accession to the EU, 2013, and present. The research used secondary data. Romania's stated goal is to be a regional leader in implementing sustainable development goals. Based on the results obtained from data available in 2020, a set of recommendations was developed to achieve the proposed target for 2030. The paper also analyzed the sustainable development indicators for the EU and Romania about the new EU 2030 Agenda. Its main indicators are compared with values ​​at the EU level, resulting in relevant recommendations that can be implemented to meet the objectives of the EU 2030 Agenda.
