Increasing the Effectiveness of Managerial Decision-making Leading to the Implementation of UAVs in Tourism using Prediction Models

Abstract:

The aim of the article was to create recommendations for companies regarding the introduction of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) in tourism via the analysis of the data obtained and the application of predictive modelling techniques (exponential smoothing, machine learning). Other scientific methods used included a semi-structured analysis of the theoretical backgrounds for three researched areas: (1) UAV technology in tourism, (2) managerial decision-making, and (3) predictive econometric models. This was supplemented by a comparison, synthesis and thought procedures of deduction together with induction, which were necessary for drawing conclusions and proposing practical measures. Using data organized in time series, the attendance and occupancy of the chairlifts of a particular ski resort was examined. The main findings focus on the possibility of achieving higher customer satisfaction with the service via faster processing of individual requirements. This depends on the entity’s ability to ensure the optimal number of personnel for the individual facilities operated. In connection with the above-listed finding, UAV technology finds its application in tourism, generating the necessary additional data in real time. By analysing and interpreting these data, it is possible to set up processes more efficiently and ultimately achieve higher customer satisfaction. The results of the research presented in this article include specific points related to the assessment of the suitability of the UAV technology’s application for individual economic entities operating in the tourism sector.
