Industry 4.0: General Aspects of Implementation in Russia

Abstract:

The prospects for the development of industry in the modern world are determined by the ideas of the fourth industrial revolution or Industry 4.0. In 2011, a number of German businessmen, politicians and scientists declared it a means of increasing the competitiveness of the country's industry through the integration of cyberphysical systems in factory processes. The main objective of Industry 4.0 is to increase the volume of output of goods while reducing the resources expended. This will create fundamentally new industries where the cost of manual labor and the threat of environmental pollution will no longer be decisive factors from a technological point of view. Industry 4.0 is also strongly associated with the Internet of Things, which implies the ability to make industrial production “smart” by connecting all household items to the Internet and establish interaction between them. In this study, the authors analyze the implementation of concept 4.0 in the Russian economy, compare the results achieved with the experience of advanced countries in this matter and provide recommendations on enhancing the formation of the ideas of the fourth industrial revolution for innovative industries existing in Russia.
