Abstract:
The article presents the spectacular evolution of the road transport industry in Romania after 2000, convincingly highlighted by the rise of some relevant indicators such as the value of the production, the intensity of the investment effort, the stock of foreign direct investment and foreign direct investment in greenfield enterprises, the employed labor force, the share of industry in the country's foreign trade, etc. The evolution was largely due to foreign direct investment in both automotive production and auto parts. At the regional level, the productive units in the auto industry, dispersed in most counties, contributed significantly to their development, creating jobs and improving the economic and financial performance of the development regions and the counties in which they were located
