Influence of Job Stress on Employee Performance in Higher Education Institutions: A Review and Research Agenda

Abstract:

Work stress is a topic of great interest in organizations, since it is a problem that is increasing over the years. Also, this phenomenon can significantly influence the performance of workers and impact on the achievement of business goals. Therefore, the objective of this research is to analyze what has been written in the scientific literature on the influence of work stress on the performance of employees in Higher Education Institutions. The results obtained in the collection of articles consider a participation of 44% of the Scielo database; followed by Redalyc with 24%, Dialnet with 24% and Ebsco with 8%. Likewise, 25 articles were found with relevant data on the variables of interest; Mexico, with 32%, was the country with the most information. In addition, most of the articles, with 84%, use the questionnaire as a research tool and have a quantitative approach. In conclusion, the studies indicate factors such as burnout, productivity, motivation, among others. Thus, most of the research mentions that work stress has a negative influence on performance. However, there is a minimal number of articles that support a different perspective.
