Abstract:
With the vast usage of social media in various organizations, information privacy issues have been brought to the attention from researchers and practitioners. In healthcare environment, doctors and nurses are two largest groups who are responsible to reflect the multidisciplinary collaboration with other healthcare colleagues. A finding from Symantec Corporation in Internet Security Threat Report 2013 showed that the largest percentage of disclosed data breaches by industry is healthcare organizations with 36%. In Malaysia, healthcare organization with regards to electronic medical records (EMR) need to consider privacy issues in their organization towards the compliance of Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) 2010 which enforced on 15 November 2013. Therefore, the concern for healthcare practitioners is needed to deal with privacy risks in handling sensitive information in social network environment. With the limitation of the existing literature deals with number of antecedents towards information privacy concerns, the main objective of this study is to develop a proposed information privacy concerns framework in the use of social media among healthcare practitioners. We present systematic literature review (SLR) results by integrating evidence into patterns that can be used to understand the antecedents of information privacy concerns in the use of social media among healthcare practitioners. Based on the existing researches with underpinnings of information privacy concerns, majority are focused at individual, organizational, and societal levels, instead of the group level. Hence, the SLR results will proceed in evaluating the highlighted factors towards the design of information privacy concerns framework in the use of social media among healthcare practitioners in the selected healthcare organization in Malaysia. Finally, a proposed information privacy concerns framework in the use of social media for group of healthcare practitioners will be developed in assisting the top management to ensure the privacy of EMR towards the compliance of PDPA 2010.
