Abstract:

Changes in current economy and ongoing progress in ICT leads to development of the information society. This inclines public sector to undertake activities to meet the expectations of customers and one of these activities is providing information and public services with ICT infrastructure and via global network - the Internet. The article presents a study on the progress of development of the information society and e-government in the European Union. The analysis presented in the paper showed that changes in ICT sphere and progress in the IS development was the trigger for further changes and result among other in computerization of public sector and creation and development the e-government. Theoretical aspects with consideration to benefits of e-government are pointed out in the paper.
